Lobot Gallery is currently seeking national and international artists for our Young Artist in Residence Program. We are seeking hardworking young artists (18-38) who are just establishing their professional careers to participate in one month residencies at our West Oakland gallery. Artists recently completing an undergraduate art degree are our main focus, but any young artist who displays a seriousness of purpose and dedication to their work will gladly be considered. Artists in any media are accepted.
Artists are expected to spend the residency producing work which will culminate in an open studio show at the end of the month. They will be required to help out with gallery duties at least 10 hrs a week, which includes emailing, helping set up and hang shows, cleaning/maintenance of the gallery, and attending events. Lobot provides artists with a large personal studio space adjacent to the gallery and a small, private room. Bathrooms and kitchen space are shared with other artists. The resident will also have access to a full screen printing shop, work space, and a music practice studio. The residency is free, and there is no application fee.
We are using a rolling application deadline for the 2010 schedule. This means that we are filling the residency as we go. We are accepting applications now for the spots beginning in October. We will fill the spots as we find artists who we think fit best, so send your application materials as far in advance as possible.
Artists are required to submit a CV, a short statement about what they would like to work on during their residency, and 10-15 images of their work. Ideally, artists will submit digital images of their work. We prefer to see images on a website, as emailed images do not always open properly. Preferably, all written materials will be sent in email format. We are however flexible on this process and will accept hard copies in the form of paper print outs and slides. If you submit any artwork which you would like returned, you must include a SASE. For more information on the application process or for questions please email: residency@lobotgallery.com
